MELAKA

Melaka was commemorated as the UNESCO World Heritage Site on the 7 July 2008 together with George Town, the capital of Penang. Melaka or Malacca as its English-Anglicization, was one the ancient world's centre of commerce. Its prosperity was what made them prominent and lead to its destruction too - for due to its strategic commercial value it had attracted the Siamese, Portuguese, Dutch and later on British to invade them.

Due to years of being the trading & commercial hub there were numerous cultural architectures that had been left behind. Socially, that phenomenon had spawned the Peranakan which still remain as a significant minority today. The Peranakan are basically the lineage of cross-procreation between various races with the locals.

Uniquely, all these "left-overs" from the past has made the Modern Malacca a world renowned tourist spot and the overdue commemoration as the UNESCO World Heritage Site has further justify and solidify Malacca's reputation. Their distinctiveness and diversity are their greatest assets which have forever enthrone them into immortality.
